Is the nQuire toolkit free?
Yes! The nQuire toolkit is distributed under an open source licence. There is no charge whatsoever for downloading, installing or using the toolkit.
I see an error saying that port 80 is in use. What can I do?
For nQuire to start up correctly it needs to access port 80 on yout computer's network setup. Unfortunately a number of other applications tend to use this too, such as Skype, BBC iPlayer, or Dropbox. A good first step is to close these programs and make sure their icons don't appear in your task bar. Once this is done, it should be possible to run the installer again successfully.
Usually these other applications can be restarted once nQuire is running, since they will then use another port instead.
I have closed the obvious programs and still receive the message about port 80 being in use. How can I determine which program is blocking the nQuire installer?
nQuire has a tool included to help find what is running, so you need to access this and run it. If you have installed nQuire to the default location, then it will be located at: C:/nQuire/xampp-portcheck.exe
Find this application and double click on it. You will need to approve the Administrator Access request on recent versions of Windows.
Look for a line that says "Apache (HTTP) 80 free" as this shows that port 80 is not in use on the computer. Instead of "free" there may be the name of another application. This will be the name of the application which needs to be stopped before nQuire can proceed.
