Try a web demo of the nQuire toolkit

The easiest way to try out the nQuire toolkit is to have a go with the online demonstration version. Currently, we have two demonstration investigations online:  Microclimates and Healthy Eating.

Microclimates investigation

You can see how a Year 8 student (aged 12-13) might use the nQuire toolkit to help them explore the local microclimates around their school grounds. First of all the student has to think of a hypothesis, decide what they are going to measure, and where they will measure. Then the student collects their data, and then analyses what they have collected. Finally they need to decide their conclusions.

In a school investigation, we would expect that the teacher might keep the later stages of the investigation closed off from the students until the appropriate lesson. As you are trying the demonstration at your own pace, you can go through all the investigation, unlike a student.

Use the following username and password to try the Microclimates investigation, logging in as a student:

Healthy Eating investigation

You can see how a Year 9 student (aged 14) might use the nQuire toolkit to investigate daily eating habits, exploring whether she eats enough nutrients to be healthy. First the student proposes questions to investigate, then takes photos of her meals and snacks and records the contents of the food. The software computes the nutrient content and compares that to the Recommended Nutrient Intake for a child of that age.

Finally she re-visits the questions and decides conclusions. For a school inquiry, the teacher might sequence the activities, so that the later ones were scheduled for a classroom activity. Here, you can try the demonstration at your own pace, carrying out all the activities during one session.

Use the following username and password to try the Healthy Eating investigation, logging in as a student:

Username: Amelia Student

Password amelia

You can type into the online demonstration. Be aware that other people logging in will see your data, and you might see other data being added by other people while you are trying this shared demonstration space. The demonstration space will be reset at 03:00 each day, and all data you have put in will be emptied.
